Beaches |
| Our beaches might not be what you expect a Florida beach to be. In their natural state, they’re not great because we’re surrounded by the wonderful coral reef. Therefore, we have no waves and walking in the water is rough...you’re walking on coral shell. Smathers Beach and Higgs Beach are small but pretty. The sand is brought in from the Bahamas. They’ll serve your sunning needs. The Ft. Zachary Taylor State Park beach is beautiful, very natural, uncommercialized and you can ONLY snorkel there. The other two beaches are too shallow. |

Fishing |
|
Many people come to the Keys to fish and there are many different ways to do it. It helps to know what kind of fishing you want to do but some of that is determined by the season. There are plenty of knowledgeable captains who will be happy to help you if you simply don’t know. For many people, it’s part of the experience and perhaps something that you know nothing about. Don’t worry; they’re used to it. In fact, they’re probably more used to people who don’t know much because many people who are knowledgeable have their own boats or rent or charter their own trip. There are so many ways to do your fishing and so many boats that you won’t have a problem. Whether it's deep sea fishing and light tackle or flats fishing in the backcountry; whether you go on a big boat with lots of people, charter a boat or have a split charter...there are plenty of choices. Buying the book will give you my suggestions for specific boats and captains, whatever your choice. When you click on the 'buy the book' key, you have a choice of immediately downloading the book as an e-book or placing an order for the book to be sent to you...or both! |
